Toronto Women’s Fitness Classes 2010 Session Dates

The following are the finalized dates and details for the first session of my Toronto Women’s Only Body Conditioning by Dancers classes for the New Year.

Registration will open this Tuesday December 15th.

Incase you need a little convincing that this is the ONLY fitness class you NEED this year take a look at my new class demo

Different from the usual format, this session will start off with a week of preview classes, followed by the 8 week session starting one week later.

Preview Class Dates:
Wednesday January 6th 8:05pm
Thursday January 7th 10:00am & 8:05pm
Sunday January 10th 12:10pm
Monday January 11th 10:00am & 8:05pm

Preview Class Details:
The preview class will consist of a 1 hour version of the new session, followed by a presentation of the BCBD New Years Challenge – a 21 day workbook I’ve developed to help you set fitness and nutrition New Years Resolutions and keep them!

Drop in rate of $15 per class, RSVP required, limit of 12 participants per class

Please Note: The session dates start one week later, as I will be out of the city from January 13th-20th. Attendance in the preview classes is not mandatory, they were created as an option for those who desire to fill the time before the start of the 8 week session.

This is a charity event for the Heart & Stroke Foundation entitled `Get Fit in the City!` on Saturday July 18, 2009 10:00am – 4:00pm at Kew Beach, Toronto.

This unique event will focus on fitness, nutrition, and health promotion for the entire family. It will feature fitness classes that will keep you fit and having fun! It will also feature several exhibitors that celebrate and encourage health, nutrition and fitness promotion.

Simple, no nonsense ways of staying fit while living life to its… …FULLEST!

Meghan’s Nutrition Advice:
1) BBQ season is upon us…have you ever looked at the ingredient list of your BBQ Saucesfavourite condiments? Take a look at your ketchup and bbq sauce…shocking isn’t it; sugar, sugar, and more sugar!

Sugar is one of the hardest things to avoid when buying commercial food products, you’ll find it’s hidden in everything. Reducing the amount of sugar from your diet has a long list of health benefits…don’t get me started…I’m a recovering sugar addict.

One of the best ways to reduce sugar from your diet is to make these sauces at home, from scratch, so that you can control everything that goes in to them. Try this sugar-free, gluten-free bbq sauce recipe:

Sugar & Gluten-Free BBQ Sauce
2 tablespoons olive oil
3 cloves garlic, crushed
¼ cup shallots, minced
1 small can tomato paste
1 cup orange juice, fresh squeezed
2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
½ teaspoon dry mustard powder
½ teaspoon smoked paprika
1 teaspoon sea salt
¼ teaspoon black pepper

bbqsauce1. Warm oil in a saucepan over medium low heat
2. Add garlic and shallot; cook until soft
3. Add tomato paste, orange juice, vinegar, mustard, paprika, salt and pepper
4. Simmer over low heat 15 to 20 minutes, stirring often
5. Baste over fish or chicken
6. Refrigerate and allow to marinate for 1-3 hours
7. Grill and serve

Serves 6 -makes enough sauce for one whole chicken or 4 breasts

soccerGet Fit With Friends This Summer- Take advantage of the weather, get outside and get fit! Plan a weekend walk or run with a friend and make it a healthy lunch date to reward yourselves afterwards – its a great way to socialize and exercise all at once. Also, consider taking up a sport this summer, like joining a Tennis club, Soccer team or a Running group – All great ways to enjoy the outdoors, meet people and exercise at the same time.

Being physically active provides benefits for all of us. People are physically active for many reasons-play, work, competition, health, creativity, being with friends.

There are also as many ways of being active as there are reasons. What we choose to do depends on our own abilities and desires. Perhaps you’ll consider a Body Conditioning class or Yoga, try out many programs until you find what is most inspiring for you.

In combination with healthy eating and positive body image, physical activity can improve our quality of life. Together all three equal total body well being!

Here are a few tips

Active Living

  • Take the stairs instead of an escalator or elevator
  • Get off the bus early and walk

Healthy Eating

  • Drink lots of water
  • Enjoy a variety of foods, Eat moderate portions, Eat regular meals.
  • Emphasize whole grain products, vegetables and fruit
  • Choose lower-fat dairy products, leaner meats and foods prepared with little or no fat
  • Achieve and maintain a healthy body weight by enjoying regular physical activity and healthy eating
  • Limit salt, alcohol and caffeine
  • Don’t give up foods you enjoy-aim for moderation and variety
  • Make changes gradually

Positive Self Image

  • Accept who you are and how you look
  • Remember, a healthy weight range is one that is realistic for your own make-up
  • Try a new challenge
  • Compliment yourself
  • Reflect positively on your abilities
